mites and my snakes starvation

sprittere Aug 17, 2004 08:59 PM

I posted a message about 2 weeks ago about my snake refusing food and losing weight, well he has continued to not eat. He has not eaten in 2 weeks. He has refused 4 mice. On top of that I just found mites, could these mites be the root of the problem? I am going to take measures to eliminate the mites tomorrow. By the way the I have tried to feed him in every way shape and form, IT DOESNT WORK.

thanks for any info

Sounds like the mites are to root of the problem. They carry a lot of disease and a lot of snakes infested with mites will refuse to eat. Good luck getting rid of them!

Weight lose is of secondary concern to the mite problem. Remember that snakes can go for a long time without eating. Keep water available at all times. Soak the snake 30-45 minutes to remove some of the mites as well as other treatment for the cage. Use paper towels as a substrate until the mite problem has been eradicated. Definitely address the mite infestation as soon as possible and hopefully the eating problem will subside.
