Question about color.

Sunshine Aug 17, 2004 10:05 PM

I have not yet had the experience of raising a newborn BRB to maturity. I have a pair that I received 01/04 as neonates, so now I'm quessing they are between 9 and 10 months old. I think they will be too dark for my purposes in breeding. I am thinking of not including them in a breeding program because their color isn't turning out to be what I want in a breeding program. They have crescents that are a very light, almost neon looking whitish/orangish/yellow. If their background color isn't what I like at this point, would it make much difference to wait until they are 18 or 20 months old? I was under the impression that they will actually darken by that age. So I'm thinking they will become even darker to my preferable color as times goes by. Is this right? Or do I just need to wait another year to make a decision?

Thanks for any responses,
Linda

Linda,
....My BRBs always look their worse at around a year of age. They start getting much better looking around 15 to 18 months of age and then get better with each shed. I have had many I held back that I thought about selling as yearlings and then been very glad I kept them. The exception to this is that some that are very dark at one year of age will get even darker as they mature.
Good luck,
Jeff
