African Rock python forum?

BrentB Aug 17, 2004 11:37 PM

Do you think there should be a seperate forum for African Rock Pythons? Part of me says yes, part of me says no...they are definately a snake of their own, but not many of us keep them...what do you think?

I definately think there should be a rock forum, even if they aren't so popular (yet). They are very misunderstood, I have 2 that are just as docile as any ball python. Hopefully as they become more popular,(like retics, and 'condas) people will see thats aren't all that bad.

I would like to see a big snake forum -- the big five (Burmese, retic, African rock, and scrub/amethystine pythons, and anaconda) all in one forum. African rock python questions do surface on here from time to time, and as a former African rock owner, I enjoy reading both the questions and the answers. But there probably aren't enough African rock owners to sustain an active forum. The anaconda forum is not very active, and things can slow down on the retic forum as well. I'd like to see all these forums put into one giant snake/big snake board. Many of us have or have had in the past more than one of these snakes, and we can freely talk about our experiences and answer questions all on one forum.

I remember that Brian Smith was a big fan of this as well before his disappearance from the forums (what happened to him anyway?).

For the record, I've had African rocks in the past, and it's the one non-venomous snake that really makes me nervous. I know some people have had some tame ones; one of mine was tame. But the worst experiences I've had with big snakes came at the hands of African rock pythons. Maybe the aggression is being bred out of them, just like what happened with Burmese and more recently, retics, but African rocks still make me nervous.

I would def like to see a new forum for the rocks. I just recently bought a little female at the hamburg show, and wouldnt mind gettin lots of information from expierenced keepers.

I definitely think they should have a forum for Rocks. Ive seen several people mention Rocks here throughout the past year. They are probably my favorite python. As a BurmxRock owner, their personality and intelligence fascinates me along with their beautiful pattern. It would be nice to see more pics/discussions on them here.

I really think thereshould be, yes.

I myself have one (she's 8ft long now) plus a burmese hatchling, and a ball python. I cannot say how many times I have come here to post a question or coment about the rocks, and... hold off... because they don't really fit into the Burm forum in my mind... but they fit here a LOT more than they do anywhere else...
