Breeding Question on Salmons/Hypos..

KingPin Aug 18, 2004 12:27 PM

Have any of you guys ever heard of a hypo being bred to a salmon and getting normals in the litter?

It is my understanding that breeding two animals that are hypo should produce a litter of ally hypos correct? half of them being supers? same with salmon x salmon breedings.

Should it be the same with a salmon bred to a hypo?

Thanks,

Its very common from what I hear.

If Im not mistaken, hypo x hypo doesnt mean you will get all hypos. If neither hypo is dominent, then you have a good chance of hitting 1/4 or more of the litters as commons.

A buddy just had a hypo x hypo litter that produced something like 17 animals. Of thoose I believe only 14 were hypo. So its not very uncommon.

Hows your son doing?

Hypo x hypo should be, 25% normal, 25% super hypo, 50% hypo. Of course you do not know which are the supers. Craig

Codominant X Normal = 50/50% Codominant/Normal
Codominant X Codominant = 25/50/25% Normal/Codominant/Dominant
Codominant X Dominant = 50/50% Codominant/Dominant
Dominant X Normal = 100% Codominant
Dominant X Dominant = 100% Dominant
