Geckos fake rock?

snakemister101 Aug 18, 2004 02:02 PM

Hello,

I have a few questions about making some rock ledges for my leos. I have already siliconed 2 plexi glass shelves into my 50 gallon breeder tank. I was planning on putting tile grout over them, but the people at the hardware store said it wouldn't stick. I got some acrylic latex window glazing made by elmer's. I was wondering if it is safe to use this? I was planning on painting over top of it then putting a coat or two of polyurethene over the paint, to seal it off? Is this ok to do??

Thanks,
A.J>

You could use liquid nail to attach some polystyrene (styrofoam) cut out to whatever shape you want and use the tile grout method to make the fake rock. Make sure you seal it with grout sealer (water based) to make sure it doesn't come off. i don't know that the paint would stick too well to the plexi either? It might but I think it would look a little strange for a rock.
I out some tips on a website: www.freewebs.com/herptips/

Use Garilla glue. It's non-toxic and will secure anything.

Hello AJ
First I'm in the glass buisness and I can tell you that silicone will not hold to plexi glass it will hold to glass and wood so you might try that. Just don't use the plexi I'd hate for it to fall on your leos
Good Luck

Hello,

ALthough I siliconed them into place i used the hides as supports while it was drying, so it will be resting on the hides. Also I was wondering about the Acrylic Latex Window Glazing made by Elmer's. I was planning on using this instead of the tile grout since the tile grout won't stick to plexi. This was my main concern, any info on this would be greatly appreciated.
