snake bored with f/t

jenniferlm22 Aug 18, 2004 02:40 PM

When I first got my snake 7 years ago she was eating live rats. I switched her to f/t. She ate them fine for a while and then just stopped. So, I fed her live and she ate fine for the next few years. I recently (about a year ago) found out that my local petco carries frozen rats so I switched her back to f/t. Again she ate them fine at first, but lately she has not been eating as much. She'll eat maybe once out of three attempts. I always heat them up with a blow dryer and wiggle them infront of her. Lately she just smells them a little and slithers away. The last 2 of 5 that she did eat I had to leave with her in her feeding tub overnight. I attempt to feed her every 1 or 2 weeks and she eats large rats.
I truly think that she enjoys the thrill of the kill.
So, I am thinking about feeding her live every once in a while. Maybe every 4th rat or something. Just so she won't get so bored.

Does anyone have any ideas aout this? Agree, disagree, ideas?
Has anyone else had this problem?

Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Jennifer

Might try getting them warmer. When first switching my bp to ft he would not take anything less than 108 degrees on the outside (measured w/ temp gun), then after awhile he would take them if at least 100, then he started refusing again unless they were warmer. After thawing, I lay them on top of his light fixture until warm enough.
