Pygmy cham

doubleok Aug 18, 2004 02:54 PM

Ok...there's this guy on one of the other forums and he's saying that a pygmy chameleon is terrestrial and can live in a 10 gallon aquarium. He's apparently trying to take care of a lizard without spending the necessary money on it. And if I'm not mistaken...most chameleons are really expensive...and he only wants to spend 20 dollars on the lizard itself. I know very little, if anything about chameleons...but I know that most chams need a ventilated enclosure and can eat quite a bit. He's limiting his crickets to 4 a DAY for the cham. Should this guy even get one or am I just really mistaken?

The leaf/pygmy chams typically are ground dwellers, but there should be a small plant in there too. Someone on another forum has 3 in an enclosure and the male liked to sit in the plant and watch the females on the ground most of the time. You can keep 1 or 2 in a ten gallon aquarium or a screen enclosure as long as the humidity is kept relatively high. 20 bucks sounds about right for them too. They are small - maybe 3-4 inches when adults - so 4 crix a day sounds correct as well (small crix though). They eat snall crix, small worms, fruit flies, small house flies, etc. There is speculation on wether or not they need a UV light or even a basking light. Some people just use a regular light bulb just so theres a little heat and light so you can see them. I want to get acouple captive bread ones before winter. All I see for sale are wild caught ones though.

i just wanna know how dumb are they? I mean, if I'm talking about getting a chameleon of any sort, i htink it can be assumed that eventually I'm going to end up in th chameleon forum

ivegotabike...why did you think this was directed at you? And frankly, if it was, the poster (doubleok) was mistaken which would have put you in the right

this is a very disjointed thread. ;-/
