baby bit itself and died

mike17l Aug 18, 2004 06:17 PM

i sold a baby albino that was healthy and eating to somebody. the next day they informed me that the snake died during the night. the snake bit it self a little less then half way back and stayed locked on to itself and died. they showed me the snake and i reffunded them their money. this was not the only incedent, about a year ago i sold a baby albino from the same parents to a friend. his did the same thing a little less than a month ago, but it bit itself more towards the tail. any info on why this is happening would be greatly appreciated so that it could be prevented in the future.
thanks

Hi Mike –

The snakes biting themselves was not the cause of death, but merely part of the process of their dying. It is quite common when a snake is very near death for it to thrash around with its mouth open and either bite into a coil, or perhaps just snag its teeth on its own body.

I regret that no one here can determine the cause of those two deaths just from what you’ve told us.
