What is the proper way to incubate C. Collaris eggs??

Kollared_Kid Aug 18, 2004 06:27 PM

I think Eve mentioned that she uses a hovabator set to 83 degrees, but I'm wondering about humidity and substrate. It's very humid on the east coast this time of year anyway, but should I still put water in the bottom of the Hovabator? When using vermiculite, do you put that substrate in an open tupperware container inside the Hovabator? If the eggs are good, will they develop a hard shell or stay leathery? Sorry for asking the questions in a dumb manner, I just want to be absolutely clear. Thanks for your help.

Once you get the eggs out of the cage, you put them on misted vermiculite. I also add water to the bottom basin and keep the temps like Eve's at 83 degrees. The humidity shouldn't hurt, I think, But if there is alittle, or a lot, you can open one of the holes in the top for air travel. I do not know about the eggs outer shell, but I do know they change within there incubation. For example, they can be soft, even alittle dented, in the begginning. Then later that may enlarge and become harder as the baby grows inside.
Hope that helped
