Advice needed

Hetfield6J Aug 18, 2004 06:34 PM

Going to be picking up my new chameleon this friday, and im still trying to figure out where to buy from. I dont have any local pet stores that have any, and even if i did, im not sure if i would buy from them. Anyone have any advice of where to get a young Veiled, or Panther? Either online, or maybe a local breeder/store in Michigan?

I dont know what you're thinking, but you should know what species you are getting beforehand!!!
You should have already done a few months' worth of research and read at least one good book recommended by a breeder (ask around on this forum would be a good idea).

DO NOT get your chameleon unless you know EVERYTHING yhou can possibly learn about them.

don't make the mistake of getting a chameleon without proper research, you'll waste your money (it WILL die, guaranteed).

Look on the classifieds here on kingsnake, LOTS of good breeders on there. Wait for a second opinion on where in michigan to get a veiled/panther, I dont even live in the states.

----***DO NOT BUY FROM A PET STORE***----
they mistreat their animals! (some more than others)
you buying an animal from them only makes them stock up more, which means more mistreatment.

hope you end up with a great animal and good luck in your research. Please ask around the forum for any info you need

I agree about avoiding 99.9% of pet stores but there are a few that know what they're doing. There is one near me that I'd buy from and there's one in central CA that buy from. But otherwise I'd stiick to the most reputable dealers such as the Kammers (www.calumma.com). You'll pay top dollar but this hobby is so expensive that paying more for a guaranteed healthy animal is the single best investment you can make.

And I say a hearty "amen" to doing monthws of research before getting any cham.

I have been on the forums and the net researching for about a month now :P Cage is set up already, and the only thing i totally sure on was the basking temp, because i wasnt sure on panther or veiled. I have decieded to go with veiled, because they are abit hardier, and this will be my first. You can go farther down on the forums to see a thread on my set-up. I think i am going to by from BlueBeast Reptile. I have heard from a few people they are a very reputable breeder. Any other help is appreciated!

there is also a store that i go too sometimes
on middlebelt and warren in westland (stingers)that have some well started veiled chams i beleive they have 1 of each sex left but they are a little more expensive but you wont have to deal with shipping
i would recomend that store as they are taking care of them pretty well
