I just changed his cage to a smaller one. When i was checking on him i saw a white flake over his nostril so i just thought he might be starting to shed. But i went back and on both nostrils is like, i dont know powder of the nostrils. Is this from too much calcium. Ive only had for a day now so it couldnt be from me. Should i take it off. Can he breathe?

Please help

Thanks

Could just be salt.

Hi Drew,

Chams will often excrete built up salts (from water) thru their nostrils. Nothing to worry about. However, if you have only had him for a few days and are moving him into a smaller cage(?) you may want to post your setup (lights, feeders, supplements, temps, humidity, cage specs, etc.) to see if all is OK in your new Cham Land

Well i had him in a 18X18X30 and he wasnt eating so i put him in a smaller one (a ten gallon) so he could find his food a lot easier. Since ive put him in there he hasnt moved at all (its been about an hour) o well hes turned around twice on the branch i put him on but other than he hasnt moved at all. But so far is good, he ate two crickets! The ambient temp in the cage is around 78 because hes inside and the basking temp is little over 90. The humidity is always 50% and above as well.

its sounds like salt build up. if the problem continues you may want to go and buy some distilled water from the supermarked. good luck.

I wouldn't keep him in the 10 gallon for long. Glass tanks are notorious for causing Chams problems. Maybe a month at the most. He was probably housed with his brothers and sisters and he just needs some time to adjust to new surroundings. Its not uncommon for a Cham to take a couple of days before he starts to eat in a new home.
