Mexican Blue Gartersnake

Philfrank Aug 18, 2004 06:58 PM

Have any of you ever seen the gartersnakes from the streams near
Chihuahua ,Mexico? ( T. eques)?
We were collecting T. rufipuntatus and as we turned over rocks in the riverbed we would encounter the most vivid blue animals on the planet! And the meanest as well! These garter snakes were blue on blue with the only other color being black, and very little of that.
Bill Love had posted that he had never seen a totally blue animal, but this is as close as they get, people, and we caught several.
Anyone?

Never seen pictures of them, unfortunately pretty much all of the Mexican species are unheard of in the pet trade. Would love to see some pics from your recent fielding though. Good catches!

I would love to see a picture. By all means collect a few specimens to work with.

I've seen specimens of Florida blues that had a minimum of speckling, and were a deep rich blue over their entire bodies.

We took no pics ( these were collected in 1981).
More recently we collected T. exul and T.c. pulchrilatus ,T. validus, T. melanogaster. (including a solid black specimen) T. equis from many localities and color varieties.
We chased T. postremus and T. mendax.(but did not collect any).
All THESE were photographed.
