I hear these skinks are available again from Strickly Reptiles in Florida. Has anyone else heard this.
I remember when they imported them by the HUNDREDS into S. Florida reptile dealers.
Anybody still keeping them?
Phil

They are not from the skink family. They are more like alligator lizards. just check out bluetongueskinks.net. They have an article there. Their care is unknown to me, but perhaps similiar to the husbandry of alligator lizards?
They are actually Teiids.
They are Teiids but can be considered Skink cousins. Since there is no Galliwasp Forum, They are welcome here.
Yes, Strictly and occasionally at 2 other Broward County Florida Reptile shops (Which I'm not allowed to mention here), occasionally have them.
They are a fast moving group of lizards that can be compared behavior-wise to 5-lined Skinks.
Jamaica (For those who aren't up on Galliwasps) sported a beautiful, large species which was driven to extinction by man in the 1800's.
They are threatened in Haiti as the locals there consider them evil and poisonous. Efforts to educate them on their lack of venom has been futile. They are killed wherever they are found-often by maschete.
They're Anguids not Teiids.
