Question about humidity for Australian Skink

Ivan Aug 18, 2004 09:03 PM

Hi all:

I recently acquired a Shingleback Skink and although he has been doing extremely well, I am still worried about the constant warnings of keeping them in too high humidity setups.
I can't avoid having high humidity in the house due to living in Florida and having many, many aquariums.
The Shingleback is doing good so far but at the same time, it has only been a few days and I want to avoid any of the usual problems.

The humidity in the room where I keep him is about 60%. Is this too much? Do I need to buy a dehumidifier (electric or non-electric)? Any info or help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ivan

I just bought a room dehumidifier which should drop the humidity considerably, hopefully to 30% or so if not more. I keep the skink in a room-sized enclosure which basically makes the room humidity the cage humidity.

Thanks for the compliments on the SHingleback. I will try to post pics soon.

Later,
Ivan

In my opinion 60% is the upper border of the range. Since you have 60% in the room and your terrarium is heated, the humidity inside the tank should be lower.
So this will be so far Ok.
But an electric dehumidifier would be an good idea to push humidity to a lower level.
