Where do candy cane corns come from?

demiturtle Aug 18, 2004 10:30 PM

I was just wondering who originated the line and what the were originally bred from. Also, if anyone in the mansfield area breeds them or knows someone who breeds them, could they post here.

I'm not certain who started breeding them originally (maybe someone else here knows) but I do know that they are simply amels that were selectively bred (I think into Miami bloodlines) over many generations to select for a reduced background coloration.

I believe that is how R.Z. has created his, but I also believe he is the only one to have done so by selective breeding with pure corn snakes. To my knowledge, all other breeds of Candy Cane corn snakes have been hybridized with emory rat snakes to improve their colour and pattern.
