Hey all. Anyone got field sweeping down to a science? Want to share your secrets? I have 2 veileds, a pacman, and 5 mantids to feed. I've tried with little bug nets, and I don't usually catch as much as I'd like to. Has anyone figured out any gadgets or ways to catch lots of bugs quickly? I'm most interested in grasshoppers. Thanks!

I am sure you could use my car. It catches a ton! But on a more serious note, you could probably use something like a seine if you can get another person and run through the tall grass. That way you can cover a larger area and sweep more brush.

Well i catch a lot of grasshoppers too. I can tell you my tricks. I use a regular old net but I sway like the wind as i move towards them(yeah, i look stupid doing it, but it works!)and it usually works. Also, if they land on a broad leaf i go to the other side of the leaf and SNAP! fold it over them and get them that way. I can say that there are different kinds of grasshoppers like the ones that live in grass and ones like just on top of dirt so that can be something to consider. And when im bored i bring out the old daisy bb gun(lmao) and shoot em and feed them immediately to my stuff.Anyways theres some of my techniques but im sure there are others!
