dj_sim Aug 19, 2004 12:49 AM

hi..im currently planning to acquire a varanus olivaceus or "butaan"..i already have a brief knowledge regarding caring of this butaan..but i really need some help and tips before i acquire it..i believe that i don't have enough knowledge regarding its care, feeding, and in making a suitable vivarium..and i want to make sure that i have the proper infos before i persue one..what should compose its diet? how do i know if its a male or female? h

also, for the mean time..im planning to put in a 90 gallons aquarium..but will soon transfer it to a more bigger cage..is 90 gallons enough for a 12 inches butaan? how will i design the right vivarium?

It sounds as if you have never kept any monitor before? Dont start with this one (special needs and Cites 1 protected), it should only be kept by highly experianced keepers. Please reconsider and also never buy unless you have the knowledge and correct encloser size and design, dont use a 90 gal fish tank unless you have fish.

i stated that i am going to use the 90 gallon tank for temporary only..for about a couple of months..and by that time..my new enclosure would already be built..i have enough knowledge in keeping them..all i need is more infos..that would contribute more to my knowledge before i buy one..
