New IRCP?

Thomas_Povlsen Aug 19, 2004 02:38 AM

Hi

Later today i'm picking up my new (first) "irian jaya"... I've been looking alot on the internet, and have been talking to diffrent people how has IRCP, but everbody gives me diffrent answers about the heating...
The caresheets go from 70-85 F in the cool end, and 80-100 F in the warm, what should I go fore? Right now my setup, is 73-76 in the cool end and the warm end is 82-90 F is that right, or should I change that?
(sorry for the spelling, it's probaly wrong ;0) )

Thanks
Thomas

I am currently keeping my carpets at low 80's almost high 70's on the cool end. The warm end is mid 80's to low 90's. Keep in mind this is daytime and I have about a five degree drop at night. I also provide a hide at either end of the gradient. I don't know about the IJCP's but my jungles prefer a hide that is a bit on the small side (one they barely fit in) to one that is roomy. I am not telling you how to do yours just how I do mine with great results. Good luck!

If I could give you an ideal temp range, it would be between 76-88.
Definitely supply a hide or two if possible and be sure to give a waterdish large enough for them to soak in. I have found that Papuans (formerly Irian Jayas) tend to like to soak in or at least linger around their waterdish more than other carpet species.
Are you getting a baby or an older one? Is it CB or WC?
WC specimens tend to have a couple more issues you may need to address if your animal is WC.
Have fun! They are incredibly beautiful snakes!

Thanks!!!
I have raised the temperature a litte, so now the warm end is 86,3 and the cool end is 77,5
It's a CB and it's a year old aprox.
I have a couple of hidingplaces one i the cold and one the warm end. So everything should be just fine, and a waterbowl ofcourse...
Once i get a hand and Digi-cam, I will upload a picture...
Thanks for your help again, both of you! ;0)

I don't think that's an Irian Jaya.
Looks to me like a pure coastal, diamond X coastal, or maybe even a diamond x jungle.
But I am very confident that's not an IJ.
Who'd ya pick it up from?
