stittingham Aug 19, 2004 05:42 AM

Hi gang was wandering what your thought would be on this subject. I have an Indoor room. 8x8 room So there is pleny of room for a few dragons. I was wandering is having a Desert Tortoise in the room. Do you think they would be two stressed Dragon or tortoise. Or would the tortoise just make for a moble basking spot. Let me know what you guys think. Take care and enjoy whats left of summer.

my V. komodoensis with my T. kleinmanni although some purists might disagree with this practice but I did make sure they were both captive bred and even then they were both quarentened alone for about a year befor they were introduced to each other.

Actually, I don't think it is a good idea unless you have a great deal of space. Even then, they both kind of share the same niche so even that makes it a little more difficult. Now, if you were to consider Chameleons and Tortoises... that could work.

My Ornate Uro stayed with my Egyptian Tort once when I was pressed for space and they got along great!!! They have basically the same heat, food, ect. so it worked out pretty nice!

V.p.horni is not as well set up for it as some of the other monitors such as Dumerills or some of the others with the rear crushing teeth but I'll bet an adult Horni could do ok with it. Most of it would pass straight through as are the larger pieces of any mamalian prey.

Well its actually a cross with a v. flavirufus, so she's only about 3 feet t/l. The t. horsfeldii is about 9 inches across (she's a biggie) The monitors head could never even come close to swallowing her. But I guess its not a good idea even still?

EJ Aug 21, 2004 07:36 PM

I'd bet money she could get a leg or two before getting to the head...

yea, you're right, not a good idea.

Bearded dragons are common carriers of coccidia and tortoises are notorius "poop" eaters.
Honestly....my opionion....I would not mix the two.
I have bearded dragons myself (and of course have treated them all for coccidia) and would not even think of putting them in with my tortoise species.
Just my 2 cents...
