Getting my first pacman. Got a question

FishMann Jun 24, 2003 01:21 PM

I have done all the research and am ready to get one. Only thing holding me back is finding one. I did find a nice one at prehistoricpets.com. The only thing is that it is a baby. When he grows up will he loose bright color? This is the one im talking about.

Oh one more thing. Do they need UV?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure they do not need UV light, but I am not sure about this. I have not yet bought my first Pacman frog, but I'm planning to buy later. Check out snakeguy88's homepage. You can find the adress on any of his posts, The Reptizone there is a good caresheet.

Good Luck!

Appreciate the compliment. They do not require UV, though it "helps" their colors in theory. There is not much of a benifit to it other than allowing for live plants to grow. Andy

its worth noting that the pic, if it came from a website, may not be of the actual animal. you should verify that it is not a stock photo used to represent the species.

yea, i know it might not be the exact one i will get. I did email them but havent gotten a reply yet. If it is though, will he keep the color?

You can never tell. Frogs can turn out totally different than how they first appear. Everytime they shed their color could, in theory, change. Colors can also be altered much like a green anoles or green treefrogs depending on mood/stress/heat ect. Andy

...regular pac man frogs (ie NOT albino) tend to GAIN colors. That vivid green is likely to get a little darker (not quite as vivid), but its also likely he'll get some reds, yellows, browns, etc etc. Gives them a rather interesting camoflage.

The albinos I've seen tend to stay the vivid yellow, but the orange spots tend to get slightly lighter in color as they age.

These aren't the rules per se. There is always variation.

In short, you can make some guesses on what he'll look like in a year or so, but its still pretty random.
Shrug, enjoy the changes. Its just part of the frogs growing up.
