OT....King of toads, these are so funny

CheriS Aug 19, 2004 10:30 AM

One thing about Daytona, you meet breeders that have some of the strangest things you will ever see, these are Cane toads. They are like big bags of jello

Alicia with the king toad:

Alicia with the twin princes

Alicia looking for a prince of her own.. do you think she will kiss him?

If I remember correctly cane toads can exude a toxic substance from pores in the large warts on their heads and back. I can't remember if this substance is toxic to humans if somehow ingested. I do remember these toads have caused alot of problems in Australia with their native animals. Most things that try to eat the cane toad die because of the toxins.

Cute picture though

At one time teens were squeezing the toxin out and licking them! I don't know there were any deaths from it but I do remember a news bit about it.

I to had a dog who loved to mess with toads. He didn't eat them, he just mouthed them. His mouth would foam up for a while, yet he would do it every chance he had. I wonder if he was getting some sort of a buzz from it? Dang drugy dogs. lol

I'd have to be pretty desperate for a high to lick a frog. LOL

We get buffos here, big buffos. my K-9s are likely to try to eat them so sadly I have to destroy all the ones I find. They are almost always deadly if a K-9 gets a hold of them. We get some bigger than the toad you have pictured.
