Why is this? any ideas?

Linda G Aug 19, 2004 12:50 PM

My one year Digit is infatuated by the little ig I am fostering.
My 3 igs are in the same room (different enclosures) and he
doesn't even know my adult ig Beanie exists.

He watches Gizmo constantly and when ever he moves around in
his cage Digit gets active wanting out of his cage. The
other night the baby was down in Digit's plain view and of
course Digit was watching him like a hawk. I stepped in between
them and Digit bobbed (this is the first time I have seen him
do this). Any ideas what he was trying to say. It was a slow
bob straight up and down a few times. Do you think he has
a crush on the baby? (ha! ha!)

Thanks
Linda

No, i think he wants to kill the baby. You have to separate them as soon as possible. The baby will feel threatened and will not thrive.I used to have several iguanas that were always threatening and scaring each other.I was forced to adopt out most of them, even the ones that i loved a lot. When they grew older the problem became worse and they could even have killed each other if they had had the opportunity.

They are in the same room but different enclosures. I would
never house 2 together. He acts this way when he can see the
baby.

My igs were caged in different cages too, but even like that they liked to threaten each other.I used to have a gorgeous juvenile ig called Ariel. He was just perfect! Healthy and sweet and docile.I used to keep him in a medium size cage placed in my daughter's bedroom. When Ariel was one year old he became too big for his cage and i moved him to the balcony where 3 of my adult male igs used to live.Well, the 3 of them started to spend the whole day threatening, headbobing and jumping towards Ariel's new cage! Ariel changed his colour from bright green to dark brown, stopped eating and started to spend hours inside his hiding box. Besides that he became aggressive and i couldnt handle him anymore. You know, young igs do not understand that their cages' bars prevent them from being killed by big adults iguanas! They only think that they cannot escape and that huge iguana will eat them alive!Thats very stressing! When i saw Ariel would become sick if i didnt move him to another place where he couldnt see or smell or hear the other igs, i decided to adopt him out to a good home. The same thing happened to Zombie , to my beloved Gozilla and to Shena. All males. Now i only have 2 male igs.2 adults males that do hate each other.Im moving soon to another country where i have already rented a house. There i intend to put my males' cages kilometers of distance one from the other!
