Yearling copper and Vision 211

ant1gen Jun 24, 2003 01:31 PM

Hello,

I posted a similar message to the caging forum, but since I'm not sure how many hot keepers read both, I am taking the chance to post it here as well.

I now have a yearling southern copperhead (A.c.c.) which I've been temporarily keeping in a glass aquarium. In the (supposed) interest of safety, I ordered a Vision 211 for it hoping the glass doors and one-piece construction would be better. However, after putting in the doors, I see that there is a 1/4" or better gap between the two panes of glass which make up the doors. As the Agk isn't exactly a monster size snake, I'm wondering if it is even a good idea to use the cage.

In short: How large does a snake need to be before they can be safely kept in a Vision cage?

Thank you,

a

I had the same concern when I got my first visions (221's, I think). It was a concern of mine even as I was planning on housing adults. Fortunately, places such as wal-mart sell rolls of self adhesive, rubber weather-stripping of various widths, shapes and colors. This can be cut to the appropriate length and attached to the inside pane beneath the point of overlap, thereby closing or at least reducing the size of the gap. For juvies, I would recommend using 3/8 inch stripping as it will completely close the space between panes.
Good luck and have fun. creep
