bigdee Aug 19, 2004 03:10 PM

Im into reptiles and had many I now have 1.1 het albino boas 1. het albino ball and norm ball. My step daughter will be 5 in december I was told in the forum that getting her a turtle was not good. She now has an empty critter keeper from school what would be a good idea to get her to put in it?

Why did they say no to turtles? The only bad side to keeping a turtle in there would be that it would outgrow it in a period of a few months. However, lighting it would be a challange... considering you have to have a 5% UVB light on it. Are you looking for something for her to look at or to actually take out and handle? You may want to consider a baby corn snake or a small morph of a rat snake, however I dont know how you or her mother feel about snakes...and she would have to be very careful on handling such. You may also consider raising tadoples into frogs...or just a couple small frogs or something...just a couple ideas.

Battling ignorance one stupid person at a time.

Current snakes:
1) Female Licorice Stick Black Rat snake - Lola
2) Neonate Black Rat snake (Het for Lic Stk's) - Frankie
3 & 4) 2 Bairds Rat snakes - Rosa and Jose

A pacman frog. They can get bigger but a critter keeper would work well for quite a long time if you got a young one. They've got nice colors and get rather large. If you want something she can "play" with I'd get a larger animal but that wouldn't fit in a critter keeper. If its small enough to fit in a critter keeper then its probably just something to look at. Good luck.

How about a crested gecko?

If not, maybe a tarantula.
