Rock and Indian pythons seem to have that rep.

Hey,
Well, I commend you on your interest, but it should be noted that just because there are animals that are considered difficult and or surly, doesn't always make them interesting. There are other prerequisites or attributes to herps if you will, that you should look for other than the fact that the snake might have a bad reputation. My point is this, if you are looking to become the next Steve Irwin, then I say go for it; if you just want to draw attention to your self and run the risk of injury, then that my friend is not a good way to go about it.

I have worked with large constrictors, from Boas, to Anacondas, and Indian pythons, etc. and yes they are amazing animals no doubt, but that said, they can also be dangerous. You must be one hundred percent ready to work with these animals and be extremely cautious of them and their ability to deliver a serious bite.

Knowledge is key to working with any herp we wish to work with, and that knowledge comes with time and the right kind of exposure and training from the right sources. I know personally, of a keeper, that was pulled into the cage of an African Rock Python, that measured about 18-20 feet, after it bit him on his abdomen. I think you get my point! an over zealous attitude can get you hurt. Enough rambling.

If you're looking for something more light-duty that'll put a few marks on you, blue beauty rat snakes are usually pretty feisty. An angry 7' beauty snake is something to respect.

Are you looking for a pet of a breeding project??

Everyone has a story. There are "evil" ball pythons(1 in 100 million chance), that are usually percieved as "tame". There are also "puppy dog tame" emerald tree boas which are sometimes referred as "evil". Different experiences for different people. Generalizing a species' reputation or believing the hype might leave you disappointed.

"Looking for something different" leads you to an aggressive animal??? Well, you can try a rabid pitbull if you want. Almost 15 years ago, I had 2 blood python(1 malaysian & 1 sumatran) imports. To say the least, they were the offspring of the devil. I did not want an aggressive animal, but back then captive bred adults were not as readily available as they are today. The aggression proved more stressful than beneficial to me.

If you decide that finding an aggressive animal puts the A-1 sauce on your steak, then start looking specifically for aggressive animals in the classified online and local. Many people are trying to get rid of "untame and evil" animals for relatively cheaper prices.

Also, I hear that some venomous species are known to be unforgiving and "nippy". If you like a little russian roulette, then maybe that cup of coffee is for you.

"I think I can tame anything"- I like your confidence. Just make sure you are confident with your animal and not cocky. I used to think the same, but when the truth was revealed, I took off my superman cape.

My current bloods are head-tame (for some, they claim that bloods are head-shy), but I've had some wild-caughts that would try to strike at you from 15 feet away.
Below is a pic of my green tree python which is tamer than my friend's ball python and mountain kingsnake.

Just my penniless thoughts, I hope you find your animal. I just felt like talking. Good luck and be careful on whatever you decide. Just don't get yourself and/or the animal hurt.

I know this sound stupid but the meanest mf I ever had the mis fortune of dealing with was this black Racer a buddy of mine had bit me like 90 times before I could withdraw my hand. by the time it came out I was bleeding like I was bit by a monster. I also had a cooks tree boa which was pretty darn unfriendly also had some big "o" teeth let me tell ya. Just remember looking tough and being tough are sometimes two differant things I know retics and anacondas have a habbit of not being friendly but I personally don't tink these are acceptable animals for MOST keepers.

My blood is the sweetest thing (almost as nice as felix), the only time she tried to bite me was the day of shipping when the box she was in was shaken by the delivery man (that < expletive >. After 1 week of letting her adjust and 2 days after her first feeding (fed her 1 week after i got her) i decided to handle her. Didn't hiss, didn't try to strike, she was just 100% nice. On the other hand if you want something that will try to bite you buy a leo, lexy has bit me at least 50 times while rhianon, felix, and peaches have only had a combined total of 1.
