How often do you change your UVA/UVB light

charky2002 Aug 19, 2004 03:40 PM

I change mine every six months but lately i've been hearing from people that they are good up to a year. I've tried to find more info on the web but there isn't much on it, so has anyone here know how long the light is good for, I don't really want to buy two a year if I only need one, they are quite expensive.

It depends on the type, the tube bulbs only work for 4-6 months, while the mercury vapor bulbs last up to a year.

Florescent UVB bulbs are stated as being good for a year but what isn't stated is that the UVB concentration fades alot faster then the light the bulbs produce. It is recommended to change the tubes every 6-9 months to ensure enough UVB is being produced.

I believe it is also recommend to change the MVB every 6-9 months but I am not completely sure as i haven't been paying much attention to the MVB discussions as I don't use them nor plan to. At least not with my bearded dragon.
