How fat is too fat?

maneatingorchid Aug 19, 2004 06:06 PM

How much weight do you normally let your dragons pack on?
I think my Luthien must be getting up to about 65 grams, and she has a really thick pad of fat on her hips. Like, you can't feel the hip bone at all, and she's getting pretty wide in the belly, like you can see the white in between scales. Her thighs are chubby, as well. She's very active, and she eats a few superworms or an earthworm daily. Maybe she's beefing up because she had those medical problems before and couldn't eat much? I'll get a definate weight on her by tomarrow. She looks kind of like FroggieB's Darla on 10/22/99, only with more fat on the hips and thighs. She is clear of parasites. She's also the most aggressive dragon, in terms of feeding, and makes rather large displays of the mating type.

I should post a shot of jewel. She is my fattie. I don't want to see them too fat due to the health problems it can cause. I would think that if you can't feel her hip bones or see the bumps that may be a bit much. It's hard to say based on just weight too as there is so much size variation from one animal to the next.

Any chance you could post a pic?

I'll try to get a pic tomarrow or tonight. I suppose "can't feel the hip bones" was stated wrong. I mean, you can't touch lightly and feel them, like you actually have to press down on them because they're buried under 1/6th inch of padding. And she has a soft feeling to the belly, no eggs or impactions, and none of that balloon-like parasite/infection feel.
