tame tokay

tokaygecko Jun 24, 2003 02:13 PM

hey I have a couple of very sweet and tame tokays, that ive had for at least 7 years now. I only had biting problems with them when the female was fresh from the wild(the male was cb from a friend). I never had any trouble taming them down, even to the point where you can really piss them off and they wont bark or bite. my tokays are actualy the only herps I trust around little kids, even my leopard gecko cant measure up to them. and its not like they are sick and lethargic either. They like me quite a bit and will come out of hiding so I will give them a treat or a pet.
Has anyone else noticed how friendly these guys get after a while?

Mine goes up to the front of the tank when I come home from work around 8 so I can take it out and play with it. It seems to enjoy watching tv as long as there isnt too much light in the room. Very friendly though doesnt bark or anything.

i've only kept my adult female for about 18 months now, but shes lovely. shes just under 12 inches and is huge!! she not the worlds tamest tokay but shes far from aggressive. she only goes to nip and bark when i get her out, but once shes out shes fine. until she finds a wall to jump on that is..... after 2 hours of chasing around the room she gets a bit nasty, but then so would you!

i've never been biten by her, only nips. my leos have bitten harder! i'd love to find out what a male would be like to keep!

My three adults are pretty good, I dont handle my male too much but I put my hand within inches of a few times a week and he doesnt bark. He will bark at anyone else that comes near the glass when hes out. My females I hold but have same prob of them wanting to get away plus since the beginning of the year they been laying eggs and havent stopped. My hatchlings on the other hand are held almost daily and crawel around on me and never bark.

wow My guy has a broken tail halfway and he is still 14 inches. no joke I can send a photo. He never ever tries to run away, bark bite, puff up, he mostly ignores me then gets comfortable after hes out. My wc female does fill with air or jump on the wall when I handle her. I'm glad to see other people have friendly tokays! I bring my big guy to herp shows and sit there at my table with my hatchling and people always say "is that a tokay?!?"
