the easiest way to post a pic is to sign up for a free photo account here on Kingsnake. Use your forum name as the account name, and when you post, go to the bottom of the page, and you can pic from your photos. That's probably the easiest way..

hope this helps a bit...

Why is that, I've keep and even breed several monitors in the past and always keep heat rocks (well cleaned each weak) and all of my monitors have loved them after a large meal. They rest their belly on them and I believe it helps them digest.

I just don't trust them, I have seen them burn snakes, have even seen somethat caught fire. It's a trust issue with me.

Thank you for your opinion, I'm currently housing this guy in a repterium until our new house is completed in October when he will get his own bedroom. Do you have any recomendations for this type of setup? Other heat sources include a ceramic heat emitter.

Thanks for the advice

I use 45 watt floodlights as my only heat source over a raised basking spot. I get a hot basking spot and and a variant in temps through out the enclosure.

You can also place a heat source on top of a rock, be it a light or a blowtorch and give them that satisfaction for their belly. What monitors have you captively produced?

I have removed the heat rock thanks to everyones recomendation, I will be purchasing floodlights this afternoon.

Several years ago a friend and I purchased 3 Red Acanthurus Monitors as hatchlings, raised them together for 18 months in a custom cage of 7ft x 6ft x 6ft before we had our first clutch of eggs.

I was transfered from my job from Ohio to Las Vegas 3 years ago, he keep the akies and has continued to have success with them, even selling several here on Kingsnake.
