egg-yolk trick...

DeanAlessandrini Aug 20, 2004 10:28 AM

Hey All…

Sorry to those I missed at the Daytona show.
I had a family health situation I had to deal with. Hated to have to cancel.

Anyway…wanted to share this tidbit…one of my male ’04 easterns decided to eat twice and then stop eating for 3 weeks...I tried scenting with egg yolk from a recently hatched corn snake…NOTHING.
Then I tried a rat pup soaked in plain old hen’s egg from the grocery store yolk and BAM.

He sucked it right down!
I don’t remember who offered that little trick a few months ago, but THANKS!

Brooksi Kingsnakes. They have refused live, f/t, lizard scented, washed, brained, etc. I've been giving them mouse tails until something tickles their fancy. Did you offer the food dripping with yolk? Did you rinse it off some? Do you think that might entice my 4 stubborn babies to eat and swallow?

oops, I meant to post this on the indigo forum, but...I think this trick may work with any pit or rat snake or king snake (or any snake that would enjoy birds or eggs)

I mixed up a beaten egg, put the snake in a deli container and put the sloppy rat pup, dripping with egg yolk in the container with it.

I tried it the same day with an okeetee corn that was being stubborn (I produced a clutch and this was the only one that hadn't eaten)

It worked with him as well !!
