Cinder Blocks in 75 gallon aquarium?????

wideglide Aug 20, 2004 10:42 AM

I'm wanting to place a couple of cinder blocks in my 75 gallon tank for basking spots. Do you think the aquarium can handle the concentrated weight on it's glass floor?

0.1 Bearded Dragon (Fuego, spent the last 10 months thinking she was a he!)
2.1 Roommates (require more cleaning up after than the dragon)

As long as the tank is properly supported (evenly all the way around) then you shouldn't have a problem. I wouldn't try it if it's only supported on two sides or front & back only. Also, make sure they are flat on the bottom. If there is a small pebble or something under the block, all the pressure is put in that small area & bang! Kind of like a woman stomping on your foot with a high heal shoe!

It's on a regular black metal stand made for it with support all the way around. Good point about the pebble, it hurt a little to read it though.

fine, I even put a slab of slate on top to make it wider. Just dont lean down on it, ya know? LOL

I have used them for over a year and it has supported the weight fine. When moving or lifting to clean just be carfeful to put it back GENTLY , NO PROBLEM!
