The wait is over. Let the hatching commence!!

gavinclews Aug 20, 2004 12:01 PM

well you were right. I must have checked them every day for ages now and the first day i didnt check them they have started to hatch. They seem to know when you are watching them and refuse to come out! Well all i have at the moment is two heads popping out but it shouldnt be too long before they are trying to bite me and stuff. Thanx to everyone who has helped me through my first incubation. It has been hard to wait for so long but im sure it was worth the wait. I will keep you all posted on the little ones

Congrats!

For the record, how many days did they incubate? Did you ever answer if you just have the one clutch, or are their more behind it?

This year they have hatched at 68 days at 83.5 degrees. This is the beardies first clutch and she hasnt had anymore yet so im not sure if we will see anymore this year or not. I will probably try to breed again in autumn sometime. By the way the babies are great!!

Is there anything i should be doing as they hatch because their heads have been out for some time now but they arent coming out. In fact i dont know if they are moving at all. Should i take them out of the container and put them in a more bigger one or leave them? Also, does it matter if i give them a helping hand by opening the egg a little or should i leave well alone??

Leave them alone, they may still be absorbing their yolk. Sometimes they'll sit with their heads out for a day or so as they absorb it and then its off to the races.
