Is UV lighting really necessary for Box turtles? They spend most of their time buried. I have a baby (about 2 1/2" long) Gulf Coast box turtle. She stays buried most of the time, except in the morning with she comes out to bathe and eat.

Yes it is very neccasary to keep your box turtle healthy. They will become vitamin deficient and become ill without it...that is one of the benefits of keeping them outside.
