Too early?

Melle Aug 20, 2004 01:58 PM

Hello,

Is it too early in the year for a dragon to go into brumation? Pharoah has not been himself lately. He just sits in his cave sleeping most of the day. he stopped eating his veggies but still accepts superworms if i give him any. Once he poops again I'm gonna take it into the vet to see if he's got any parasites, but if thats not the case do you think hes just starting early? is that even possible? Thanks for any replies!

My male is doing the same thing. He's sort of digging around in his cave and under his log, and generally slowing down. Like you I'd going to have a fecal done, but I think he's heading to bed early this year.

It is very possible that he is ready for brumation. How old is he? If this is his first year for brumating they pretty much let you know when it's time. I think a fecal couldn't hurt but you will want to take him off feed if he is going into brumation. Make sure you shorten the light time and you may want to lower the wattage on your heat light. Give them fresh water once or twice a week. I drop it on their noses and let them drink that way. Make the drop in temps and light gradual over 3-4 weeks and then gradually back up. 6-8 weeks ought to do it.

Thanks for the replies. He is 3 years old. I really do think he's headin to bed early. this is his second year of brumating and last year i cant remember when he was down for good. Im gonna give him a bath and get him to go to the bathrom one more time, and just take that sample in just in case.
