Well were back...

Melisondra Aug 20, 2004 05:32 PM

Well I took her in today
- Cost of vet visit including ultrasound - 10$
- Stop to the pet store afterwards to get crickets and to show her to the owners (where I got her when she was a baby) -$5
- her not approving of the vets "cuddling" treatment, turning black and latching onto his palm....

Priceless.... (especially after she let go and I picked her up normally and she popped right back to bright green)

She seemed to take the trip with great stride, and even ate 3 crickets at the petstore when I stopped to get more. Vet said shes doing fine, the sore in her mouth is just a scab hes thinking since there was no liquid or anything in it. (probed it a bit) But definitely not mouthrot. Told me all his chameleon horror stories about eggbinding, prolapses and MBD, (geee thanks *shudder*) Didnt give me anything though to put on her sore, but dont think I need anything. I didnt have a fecal sample but she pooped on him during the ultrasound anyway, but he didnt exam it or ask to.

All in all now I just wait and pray that she lays before next weekend when I head back to school! Dont think the good ol parents are gonna like dealing with a very pregnant chameleon.

Thanks for the help!
Erin

haha! Good for her (and you!).

I am assuming you meant $100 not $10? My vet is always impressed with Luna's "grip" but she doesn't get black, just a tad dark

So could he see the eggs and give you some idea about timing? I have been meaning to ask my vet if I can have Luna's x-ray to copy. It would be neat to have for reference!

Funny, I remember last year when you first got her and then had to go off to school and your brother refused to take care of her or something - or didn't want to handle the crickets? Was that you? I hope she lays them before you go so you can experience it. If not, just have your folks call me - LOL! JUST KIDDING!! But maybe you can introduce them to the forum if they need help LOL!

Luna gets little nicks on her "lips" and I just use a little peroxide on a q-tip (as suggested here) and none have ever turned into anything - whew!

Keep us posted and how about some pix? Do you have some in the gallery?

He didnt have much to do besides the ultrasound! So they just charged me $10.
He couldnt give me any timing on the eggs though, just said "She's carring a baby!" (almost corrected to babie"s" but figured why confuse him...)

lol and yes that was me saying how my brother wouldnt handle the crickets hehe (still wont, scared the cham will bite his ear like he did to my dad, another long story...) But I have it set up where you scoop them into a carboard tube and tap them into a feeder cup so its pretty easy. My parents can handle this I think (Next year im getting an apartment I think so no need to leave them at home anymore =-P)

Ill post some pregnant pics soon as I can swipe my mom's camera (mine absolutely sucks with close up shots) Thanks for asking!
Later!

does not sound like a good chameleon vet to me at all!

carrying a "baby"?
did not even mention a fecal?

this is not good...find a new vet...even though its a cheap vet, the price reflects the quality you recieved!

cute how she turned normal colors with you though

I am planning on it, but the vet that I went to in town *was* on that herp vet list of Lele's! The only other closest one (on the list)is in toldeo (hour away)and even they didnt sound too knowledgeable about chams.

And when I called them and all the vets in our area they all say "Yeah we're....familiar with those animals?" *whisper* "what the hell are those?" "...Got me?"

He has seen a few before he said but admitted he didnt have much experience with chams so much as iguanas.
I dunno Ill have to do some more checking. Now im just waiting around getting ready for her to pop! She is still eating fine and not wandering around though... Really hope she lays befopre I leave... Or am I going to have to sit behind her and yell "PUSH PUSH!!" or something to get her in the mood????
Wonder if they have chameleon Lamaz classes... (spelling?)

The list is not mine I just pass it along

When you say Toledo I am assuming you are in Ohio? Here's another link for you (remember, I am just the messenger! LOL!)

Did you see him do the ultrasound? therefore see the eggs? I wonder why he did an ultrasound rather than an x-ray.

Oh yea..I was gonna ask why they did an ultrasound as well...

I'm real sorry to hear you dont have a good herp vet around. I guess in that situation your best bet would be to learn everything a GOOD herp vet would do and "inform" your vet when you take them... I'm sure if you do it with good intentions he'll be more than willing to listen and learn.
