Egg Bound gecko

devotchka2589 Aug 20, 2004 09:32 PM

My gecko, Stella, has been egg-bound for about 20 days, and this is her 4th clutch, 1st year. She hasn't had any problems laying her first 3 clutches, but now I'm getting worried. Her eggs definetly look fully developed. I've put her in warm water a few times now, but it doesn't seem to help.

Usually she only has a loss of appetite for 2-3 days, but she hasn't showed interest in eating anything for a week. Should I really be worrying this much, or could this be bad? What makes this even worse - I don't have the money for bringing Stella to the vet, and my parents are definetly not going to help. My dad said "don't expect me to help pay for the vet, just wait till she dies".

Since her last clutch, I have added another gecko to the tank, Zoey, but they get along just fine.. so I don't see how Zoey would be interfering with this.

Please help!

PS- Feel free to IM instead! I would actually prefer if you did.. ty. My IM is devotchkas2589.

Hi, this is Leogecko101.

I suppose you have already seen this:

since you are a fan of that website.

When you put the gecko in warm water, try rubbing her belly gently as the article says.

If she does not release her eggs very soon I would suggest giving the gecko back to the breeder you got her from. You may not be able to get her back, but the breeder might be willing to take her to a vet. I don't know if the breeder will take a sick gecko, but it's a lot better than simply watching her die.

Hope this helps.
