Hi Guys;
Just had to deal with an eggbound female who was having trouble passing some slugs, so with some gentle palpations, some prayer & after doing some serious research into the subject over the past month or so. For the past couple days I'd noticed her struggling & having contractions......... tonight I took matters in hand. So far we have 8 slugs out, this is a female I bought back in January, who ate hardly anything till May, who filled up with slugs, had started eating but was having trouble defacating the past month. So tonight with every slug that came out of her there came a thurst of fecal material afterwards. After I had calmed down drank a couple glasses of wine I called Doug Taylor who gave me some good reassurance that I did the best I could with what I had & that he felt things would be OK.
I know there are things involved with dealing with reptiles that nobody can control however i want to throw a boquet out to Doug for giving some reassuring words.... well truth be known your ALL a pretty descent support group. I've been following the story with Tony dealing with Crypto, others losing good breeders as well as beloved pets & it's good to see the support folks get in here.
My girl 'Heini' is doing good so far, her vitals are certainly coming back.... after the slugs came out she went into a bit of a trance, the kinda trace most snakes go into when they lay eggs & at 1 point went limp. I though I had lost her for a few seconds.... THATS when you get to see a grown man cry. I just went downstairs into my snake room took her out & lay her on my chest, she just slithered her head around flicking her tounge out at everything & being herself again only at a much slower pace.
As tempting as it is to just keep her in my arms all night I realize she's better off left alone. Poor thing i just laid her in her cage & put her in God's hands. I'll feel a WHOLE lot better if she's good & alert in the morning & takes a few of the rat pups I have thawing out for her.
Thanks again Doug..... I'll never forget this. And thanx to everyone else in here who's offered advice for different things at 1 time or another.
Dean
