ANYONE SELLING BLACK ROUGH NECKS?

vulcan Aug 21, 2004 12:27 AM

Will there be anyone at the NARBC show in Anaheim, CA. this September 11th & 12th who will be selling farm hatched or captive bred Black Rough Necks? What would be a good asking price for a farm hatched or captive bred juvenile BRN at the show?
Also, what is the best substrate for BRNs because I've read several websites that say different things: some say coconut bark, others say sand, etc.
Also, are there any good books on captive care of monitors, because some of the posts on this forum say that Daniel Bennett's book gives misinformation about BRNs, even though his book was reported to be very good. Thanks for the input.

Keep your roughnecks as you would any other monitor, none of which are ideally suited to sand or coconut hust substrate. Though I will tell you in my experience that roughnecks do not burrow much if at all so substrate doesn't seem as crucial to this species until you get to nesting concerns. Mine seem fine on a leaf litter/topsoil mix. Lots of hides. Will defecate quite consistantly in large enough water basin. Get a baby. Great, great monitors.
