about my mom not liking snakes

To be honest with you, the chances of changing your mothers phobia of snakes is unlikely. My father can't even look at a picture of a snake. He will literally scream and jump up and run to the other room. It is a very deep seated fear for some people. I think that is one of the reasons why I have such an interest in snakes, anything that can give that kind of reaction to a person is interesting. How old are you? Eventually you will be moving out of your parents house and then it's up to you what you keep. I know there is no way that my father would EVER let me keep snakes when I lived with him. In the meantime, learn as much as you can about snakes. Maybe have your mother come onto the forum with you so she can see all the interesting and wonderful people here and their snakes. You never know, she may change her mind when she sees what a great community of people of all types that come here. Good luck, Scott.
