Wild Gecko Eggs, Temperature ok?????

sykadelik Aug 21, 2004 09:21 AM

Hi I found 3 gecko eggs in my storage closet while moving 2 weeks ago; the eggs have since been in my new storage closet. I live in Dallas, they are mediterranean gecko eggs. They are hard shelled eggs, I found them on the cement floor in my closet. I have them in a flower pot full of soil laying on a sock and some paper towels. I shined a light through them last night, and in one egg I could make out the babys body; his arm moved, and I could see his heartbeating. The other two are pinkish, but I couldn't make out anything, and they haven't gotten much darker. I am concerned with the outside temperature. Its been unseasonably cool, 70 degrees at night, and I'm worried this is too cold for the eggs, even in the closet, which may be a few degrees warmer. I don't want to bring them inside since I have no incubator. I figure they need the natural outdoor humidity. Is this right? What should I do? I don't want them to die from being too cold...in the daytime it exceeds 80 degrees. Please help, thank you!!!!!!!!!!

They should be A o.k. That is the temps I incubate the eggs from my breeders. So far those temps have hatched out 13 of 17 eggs. But those are a bit late in hatching, over here in Carrollton we just had a HUGE hatch two weeks ago. You had to watch your step on the pavement if you were out late! Just check up on them every night and once you see a big hole in each one they have hatched. Look for them by any nearby bug attarctions (ie. porch lights at night, bottoms of certain brick walls at night, and stuff in the day.)
