Pied male $ and female $

graycat274 Aug 21, 2004 11:01 AM

In most morphs, the female offspring are more expensive but I see in the pied morph, the females are considerably less expensive. Why is that? Are male pied more likely to produce pied offspring with a het female than a female pied X with het male?

Anyone?

I may be wrong but I think it is, you can breed 1 male to more than 1 female producing pos.hets / hets / or pieds / depending on what your females are, but the female will only breed 1 time.

Yes, the reason the males are more expensive is because they can be bred to multiple females...

No, you can't produce possible hets with a male pied, only hets and pieds.

I am no expert but...Pied bieng a recessive gene:

male pied to normal females = 110% het males and female hatchlings.

Normal male to pied female = 100% het males and female hatchlings.

Het to het breeding = 66% possible hets and some times pieds but not 100% of the time!

Het to normal breeding = 50% possible hets

To answer the original question males can be bred to multipule females and produce lots of hets! females can only be bred once in a season. And oh yeah they also take up to 30 months to get to breeding size.

"male pied to normal females = 110% het males and female hatch"

Just curious where 110% came from. They are still 100% no such thing as a 110% het. Well actually out of 100% they could be 110% because they are a guaranteed Het.

my theory is that there arent as many pieds out there as pastels or albinos...so in order to max out ur production a male would make more quicker.....but once there are a little more pieds out there then the price of a female would be more....i'd noticed that on new morph generally...and its prolly demand since not that many of us gots a male pied to make lots of hets.....we generally wanna start off w a male to make the female hets. if that makes sense...just a thought...

Males will be more expensive for a while but eventually once most people have males, the females will become more expensive....same with spiders, etc...you only need one male pied, but if you have more than one female pied you can make more combos (pied albino, pied ghost etc)
