I got a baby savannah yesterday (about 5" long) supposedly captive born and am thinking of getting another one to go with him in his tank (the "large" size wooden/glass reptile - about 6 feet long, 2 feet wide, and 2 feet high - I have a couple of these tanks around) but my goal is to be taming my monitor(s) from the time they are babies so when they get to be adult age, they're hand tame and docile. At first the baby savannah was a little flighty (good sign) but after holding him a bit and gently rubbing behind his ears he tends to close his eyes and lean into it.
I was wondering though if I added the second savannah (same size - from the same pet shop) would it make taming any more difficult? (For example if one savannah is always flighty and perhaps the new one tail wips and opens his mouth - will the other one pick up on this and mimick his behaviour?) It'll be hard to tell them apart but I'm pretty good at handling my reptiles (individually) a couple of times a day.
I have plenty of reptile tanks, heating and supplies, but as a last resort I want to open up another 6 foot long tank in my BOQ (it's about the size of a small hotel room) if I don't have to.
The reason why I want another savannah by the way is since savannahs have different personalities, I want to get two unique ones to raise to adults, so maybe one of them will never become fully tame, while the other will be like my old one (who was as tame as a dog) and all the effort and time I'm ready to spend on just one - at least there will be two and a better chance of one of them becoming to the level of tameness where I want him to be.
Didn't mean to make the post this long, but any comments or advice would be appreciated.
(By the way most of my stuff is storaged at my parents house which I usually visit on my days off, while I live one county north at a BOQ room.)
