For Mark and Robert, what is this

FR Aug 21, 2004 01:53 PM

Mark, please scoll down and see Roberts observation of a pic below. Please do something like that.

OK, this pic is a little more complicated, but I bet Robert will come closer.

To all who play, its all about fun. Thanks FR

the male on top seems to be watching over a nest that is in progress, perhaps she is getting ready to lay late this afternoon. She seems to have just come from that direction.

I'm probably way off, but when I have gotten pictures like that it's been something I wanted to take a picture of, but one decided I may have food (female in this case) and comes to check it out. Since the female is gravid, I guess it's early (not ready to lay yet) and she isn't nesting, because they don't seem all that interested in food while nesting.

Since you mentioned slice in time, was the female next to the male or in the hole before?

I'm not very good at these games, I have enough issues with my monitors that I get to see the whole picture on. hahahahahaha

a female who has (perhaps) dug a test or nest hole for herself, or perhaps checking out the soil for possible later use? possibly investigating the other goanna who has checked this hole out? It could just be two goannas alert but relaxed in their enclosure....

Is is an ongoing event. I do not know the outcome. Please keep this in mind.

All of you are way off, but I did warn you, this is not so simple.

Please look at the hole. FR

I like to look at holes as much as any fellow does; it is not a recent excavation. There are recent 'drag marks' there on opposite sides of the hole, suggestive of scent marking by either the male or female, depending upon who has scented the hole as their domain. I would say the female as she is in alert but relaxed display, and the male has walked away...but it is a guessing 'game' isn't it...only they know the whole truth....

Actually I know from experience what is going on. There is no doubt. As this goes on, I will make some predictions. Of course, I can be wrong with predictions. Oh heck, I can be wrong about this, we will see.

Heres another pic a few hours later.

Really Mark, do have fun, as I can only hope for one thing, and thats to make this enjoyable. For you, me, and others. Thanks FR

Looks to me like it is being dug, or is collapsing from the inside out.

FR Aug 21, 2004 11:04 PM

I you look, the hole is not being dug from the outside, its a tunnel being collapsed from the inside.

What does that mean?

Good on you Rsg. FR
