Our little Peoria il show.

Gargoyle420 Aug 21, 2004 03:59 PM

We have a little reptile show here once a year.Normally Im really hyped up before and after the show. This year there were hardly any reptiles, stuffed rattlesnakes from dreaded snake rodeos, and some horribly deformed african spur torts.I talked to many people who didnt even know the sex of there reptiles. There were some knowledgable people there that I enjoyed chatting with. They had a smokin Texas indigo and nice pair of carpets but most reps were the ordinary petshop kind.I was dissapointed. The kids were eating it up so that was a plus.

Real nice pic....

I know what you mean about small shows, we have one here, but it is monthly. I only go a couple times a year, beacuse there is never really anything that interests me there. It takes a whole 1/2 hour to get through the whole thing. There are a couple nice and knowledgable people there though.

Have a GREAT day!!!!!!!!!

How are they promoting it? I guess I better start paying attention.

They have little signs up at all the big intersections in town. It's at the lakeview museum in the basement. It's just a showing of reptiles no buying and selling. If area breeders would of showed there wares they could have made a killing in future sales.Last years was pretty decent and I hooked up with a trio of year old hypos. It's run by the Peoria herp society. One of the big problems I saw this year were people with unlighted tanks. You had to put your face to the glass just to view anything. It's still running Sunday 10 to 4.

I had a feeling this year's show would be a bust. I almost went as an exhibitor but only had my 5' Short Tail, BRBs and Dums that would have been of interest. Other than that it would just have been "pet shop" herps, as I own a pet shop. LOL Sad thing about the Peoria area and the pet shops is that the herpers who know won't buy from the area shops but from the internet instead, which makes it impractical for the shops to keep the more sophisticated herps. The ones who do spend the money locally usually buy the overpriced, sickly herps from one of the shops in Peoria.

Nice looking hypo corn though.

Wish it was an expo.People get motivated to buy and everybody brings all the great stuff.3 years back we had a reptile swap at the brandywine holiday in.That was a good time. The DNR guys were a pain in the @&& and most sales were done in the motel rooms. It wasnt like anyone was selling poached ivory.

She is just a plain 20 dollar hypo.I like the more natural looking corns over all the crosses.I think the best looking corns are the normals and miamis.Just personal prefference.
