Life Expectancy

bratzler Aug 21, 2004 04:39 PM

Hi, I was wondering what the average life expectancy for a leopard gecko is. I have a female normal leo named Ellie who is a little over a year old. Thank you!

From what I've read, a leo could live to be 20 years old! I suspect this is a little high though, Since I've never actually heard of a leo this old. 15 probably wouldnt be out of the question though. Later

20 years old is not high, i remember reading on this forum someone had a leo 18 years and still kicking. So please reserve and expect a LONG LIVING PET.

You should of known how long it lives before you bought it

Excuse me, I was not asking for any reason other than curiosity. I love this gecko and will have her as long as she'll have me. Also, I think what you meant to say was that I should HAVE known how long they live, not should OF. Thanks.

As long as you and/or other people (especially the younger ones and their parents)new to the hobby get the point of my message;

Life expectancy should of been a known factor Before the purchase of your pet.

Children, please! This forum is not for nit-picking. I'm an English teacher, but I have to turn my head at the grammar/spelling on here.

And don't automatically assume that someone's being an uninformed kid who won't take care of their animals. This was an honest - and GOOD - question. Don't shoot people down for asking questions.

As for the LIFE EXPECTANCY, I've read that a leo can get as old as 29 years old, I believe. So 20 isn't a big #. They can live longer than many dog and cat breeds as long as they're taken care of (so a pet at Petsmart... It ain't gonna live too long)
