Black Throat bleeding from tip of tail, suggestions.

neilgolli Aug 21, 2004 04:43 PM

Well, just gave my new black throat a bath and after soaking him, had him down on the floor when for the first time he tried to tail whip me. He hit the door and directly from the tip of his tail began to bleed. Not a lot, but to the point to where it was dripping every 10 to 15 seconds while I was holding him. I applied some pressure with a napkin and then applied "bamboo" a produce normally used for dogs and cats in the event that you cut thier toe nails to short. Wondering what other methods may be out there.

Thanks for the suggestions...

Interesting, my blackthroat juvenile just tried to tail whip me as well about 20 minutes ago right when I was ready to take him to the bath. I held him for nearly 20 minutes until he calmed down and finally got relaxed in my arms before I brought him to the tub. (Can't reward that kind of behaviour by immediately putting them back in their cages like they want you to.)

Back to the subject though, is the tail still bleeding?
You can try using some neosporin on it, at least from my one experience using it on my adult savannah (years ago) it saved his eye. There should be a brand of neosporin that also helps to clot the cut so it doesn't keep bleeding, haven't personally used it (on myself or any reptiles) but it'd probably be worth a shot if the tail doesn't stop bleeding.

This specifically was the product that I used, and it has stoped the bleeding right away.

I will apply neosorin tomorrow to ensure that it does not somehow become infected.
