Rattlers in Norcal

Does anyone know of a good spot to go looking for rattlesnakes in the bay area? Especially in the Santa Cruz mountains?

Also, just out of curiousity, is it legal to keep rattlesnakes in CA? I don't want to keep them though... I'd much rather just go hiking outside and photograph them. Ever since I found 5 red diamonds in Baja this spring I've been looking for rattlers (and other snakes) pretty much everywhere. I found a bunch in Mendocino National Forest and I'm hoping that there are some in the Santa Cruz mountains.

Any help or links would be appreciated.
