Acrylic or Glass?

sumo Aug 21, 2004 09:16 PM

Hello,

I am about to move my 2 red eared sliders into a 48"x18" tank. I am trying to decide wheter to buy an ancrylic or a glass tank. When my turtles beg they rub their claws on the glass. Will this scratch acrylic? Also, if you know any other advantages or disadvantages please tell me.

Thank You

Glass is better for keeping turtles in.

im just wondering for my own curiosity, why is glass better? i mean, are there specific reasons why it's better? i would guess because the turtles nails would scratch the acrylic? just wondering...

depending on the size of the tank, water pressure can sometimes be too much for acrylic. Usually acrylic tanks aren't made for holding water. I've heard of horror story's of them busting on people.

I've never heard that acrylic aquariums can't take the water pressure, they are made to hold water. I think the objection to the acrylic for turtles is that it scratches easily (nails and shells). I think it will hold the turtles fine, it just won't be very pretty over time.
