i dont know the real name for this frog, but it was imported through wal-mart in some potting soil. the soil was imported from puerto rico! some puerto rican nationals clame it's an important frog to them, people in hawaii are trying to kill them off! we also call the frogs ko-kees.....that's the sound it makes all night! there is thousands of them , harmonizing! i love the sound...very soothing! oh well thanks for listening! lol

Just goes to show you how invasive species can impact an area. Native to PR it is fine there, but in another habitat without its usual predators, disease and other factors to keep it in check it can become a real problem. Being in HI you see it all the time. Do you know what the problem is in HI? Is it feeding on specific insects? Just curious (curious is my middle name!)

UMMMM....I'VE HEARD THIS A MILLION TIMES, I THINK THE FROGS EAT A CERTAIN INSECT....IN TURN THE INSECT DOESN'T POLLINATE THE NATIVE PLANTS OR A NATIVE BIRD MISSES HIS DAILY INTAKE ON THE MISSING INSECT. THEY SPRAY LIME AT NIGHT TO KILL THE FROGS, BUT THEY'LL NEVER RID HAWAII...oops sorry for yelling , i forgot the caps were on..of the frogs. i think once a species invades and population explodes( like jacksons or kokee frogs ) the state of hawaii needs to export animals and make $ of them. instead of wasting money and trying to kill entire population off, they should make money and get into a profesional pet trade! the state has banned shipping (except for permit, one time only) and exporting! so frustrating!!! lol well im off to try and photograph some jacksons!

Wow, what stunning colors! That is also a testiment to the beauty and spirit of Hawai'i, it's so green even the crickets turn that color.

there not crickets, there wild caught grass hoppers. i spend every night outside. people look at me wierd like i'm crazy lol.
