ahh blood pythons
I got Daphne...um...it'll be a year ago on September 13th...the first time I actually paid for a snake (I got my corn snake and ball python from people who didn't want them anymore) and I was like "wow she's beautiful"
and now I'm all like "woohoo blood pythons!"
whenever I go to Wal-Mart or Target, I carefully eye the Rubbermaid section and think of ways I could convert those big home-entertainment shelves into a funky snake cage
and now I'm looking through the classifieds for another blood
I just called my mom in here a few minutes ago and she screamed at me, "No! I don't want to see any more blood pythons!"
I said, "It's not a blood python...."
so she came in here
I said, "It's a Borneo short-tailed python."
she didn't seem amused
and I must say, I think I've been pretty lucky with Daphne. I went to that reptile show last year, I planned on getting another softshell turtle. At the first table I visited, I saw several cups of beautiful blood pythons, and at a price that shocked me: $59
so I spent about an hour and a half subtly trying to convince my mom to let me get one
and it all worked out and we went back to the table to pick out a snake; I picked Daphne cos she had great colors and a lot of personality (she tried to bite me several times instead of sitting calmly in my hand)
so I paid for her and took her home
and my first mistake was not having a cage set up for her, and it was a couple of days before I got a chance to set up a cage
I found that Reptiles magazine and read Robyn's article about blood pythons and found out that they are pretty sensitive to mistakes with temperature/humidity
and it took some trial and error to figure out how to get everything right (yeah another mistake) and from what I read in that article, it was a bad thing not to have had everything figured out *before* I got the snake...Robyn made them seem super-sensitive to that kind of stuff...and to large enclosures, and I've had her in a 20-gallon long since I got her
but Daphne is still here and has never seemed to have any serious problems...except that biting thing, but patience and a leather glove have worked well
but this time, I'm not taking any chances: I'm setting up el cage-o before buying el snake-o (oh yeah....insert climactic "Rocky" music here) cos I'm the man
and...as soon as I can get my hands on a digital camera, I'll show you some pictures of Daphne...oh, she's beautiful
